Growing up around the woods of Western North Carolina, some Joe’s best childhood memories involved climbing trees with his brother and hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Joe was fascinated with trees from the start and knew right away they would be his “thing.”
Joe’s passion was helped out by his father, whose degree in Environmental Science made him a wealth of expert insight in trees. At age 15, it was amazing to Joe that anyone could know so much about trees – a subject that seemed so diverse and mysterious. From then on, it became Joe’s goal to follow in his footsteps.
Young Joe’s practical knowledge came from climbing those trees using authentic antique climbing gear. Then, his wisdom about trees only grew as he worked hard to study and discover trees and their needs. He came to appreciate trees as an important part of the natural world and one of the best things about North Carolina.
